About this Program

The Translation and Interpreting Certificate is designed to educate students who wish to develop professional interpreting skills and prepare for careers in our increasingly diverse population. It is especially well suited for students who have previous post-secondary education who wish to provide accurate, culturally-competent interpretation in a variety of settings. Coursework includes sight translation, consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, translation techniques, glossary development, standards of practice and codes of ethics of interpreting, intercultural communication, and sociolinguistics. Students will practice interpreting with material related to education, healthcare, community and social service agencies, legal, and other settings.
