Health Information specialists also maintain proper procedures for release of health information, gather statistics for research purposes, and interpret health coding data. Graduates are able to work in a variety of allied health-related facilities including: hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, government agencies, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, etc. Ridgewater students are required to complete two (2) on-the-job internships (practicums) while enrolled. Coursework includes working with computers and specialized computer software/programs. After completing the program, students will be able to take the National Certification Examination from the American Health Information Management Association and, if successful, become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
