Three semifinalists named for MnSCU vice chancellor for human resources

The names of three semifinalists for vice chancellor for human resources of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system have been submitted to James H. McCormick, chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. The semifinalists are Joseph Adler, Han Hoppe and Loretta Lamb.

The semifinalists were recommended by a search committee chaired by Jim Johnson, president of Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical.

Joseph Adler has been director of human resources for Montgomery County Government in Maryland since 2002. Previously, he served as director of personnel and labor relations at Prince George’s County in Maryland; secretary and deputy secretary to the Maryland Department of Personnel; executive assistant to Maryland Gov. William Schaefer; director of the Baltimore County Government Office of Employee Relations; executive director of the Maryland Classified Employees Association; assistant professor of management and director of the Public Sector Labor Relations Center at Memphis State University and assistant director for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO Department of Research and Collective Bargaining Services. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the City College of New York, City University of New York and a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University.

Han Hoppe has been vice president of human resources for ATEK Companies, a diversified manufacturing company. Previously, he was director of human resources for GN ReSound, North America; director of people and processes at Mesaba Airlines; human resources manager for Tennant Company; and an infantry officer in the Royal Netherlands Army. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Royal Netherlands Military Academy and a master’s degree in human resources and industrial relations from the University of Minnesota.

Loretta Lamb has been chief human resources officer at Minnesota State University, Mankato since 2003. Previously, she was the university’s affirmative action officer. She also served as associate vice president and assistant vice president for personnel and administration at Washington State University in Pullman and counsel in the Washington State Attorney General’s Office. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a law degree, both from Gonzaga University.

The new vice chancellor for human resources will replace Bill Tschida, who is retiring. The chancellor, along with one to three members of the Board of Trustees and others, will conduct interviews with the semifinalists. McCormick will make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees, which could act on the recommendation at a meeting May 20.
