“Make college a part of your future” gains national recognition for innovation and creativity

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has received a Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America. The Silver Anvil, which recognizes outstanding achievement in strategic public relations planning and implementation, was presented during an awards ceremony June 3 in New York City.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities received the 2010 Silver Anvil Award for its "Make college a part of your future" campaign in the Multicultural Public Relations, Associations/Government/Nonprofit Organizations category. The campaign was developed with the Franke+Fiorella agency of Minneapolis.

The campaign, which encourages students from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education to consider college, features brochures in nine languages, advertisements in minority newspapers and mass transit, and a Web site. Enrollment of new students from underrepresented groups in fall 2009 increased by 22 percent over fall 2008.

The Silver Anvil Awards program began in 1946. Awards are now given in 59 categories and subcategories. With more than 31,000 members, the public relations society is the largest organization of public relations professionals and students.
