ST. PAUL, Minn., May 8, 2015 – Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has named two semifinalists who are under consideration to be vice chancellor for academic and student affairs. The candidates are Ron Anderson and Julie Furst-Bowe.

The candidates were recommended by a search advisory committee chaired by Richard Hanson, president of Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, and comprised of representatives from faculty bargaining units, student associations, and leaders from the system office and campuses. They are scheduled to participate in open forums to provide students, faculty, and staff with an opportunity to meet the candidates and offer feedback. Forums will be held Monday, May 11, at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities in the McCormick Room at 30 7th St. E., Suite 350, St. Paul, and will be available via WebEx. Ron Anderson has served as president of Century College since 2011. Previously, he served Century College as vice president of academic affairs and vice president of finance and administration. He served Capella University as vice president of curriculum, assessment, and academic records, vice provost of academic affairs, and interim vice president of elearning. He served Minneapolis Community and Technical College as associate vice president of academic and student affairs, dean of academic affairs, associate dean of academic affairs, and director of research and planning. He served the Minnesota Community College System as a research associate, the University of Minnesota College of Education as a coordinator of institutional research, and the University of Minnesota Department of Educational Psychology as a statistician/data manager. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Olaf College and a masters and doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

Julie Furst-Bowe

Julie Furst-Bowe has served as chancellor of the University of Southern Illinois Edwardsville since 2012. Previously, she served the University of Wisconsin-Stout as provost, vice chancellor of academic and student affairs, assistant chancellor of assessment and continuous improvement, associate vice chancellor of academic and student affairs, chair of the department of communications, education and training, and as a member of the faculty. She also served the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire as a media specialist, and she served the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha as a library and media services media specialist. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, a masters from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

The MnSCU Board of Trustees is expected to consider Chancellor Steven Rosenstone’s recommendation at its May 20 meeting. The anticipated start date of the new vice chancellor for academic and student affairs is July 1, 2015.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities include 24 two-year community, technical, and comprehensive colleges and seven state universities serving more than 410,000 students. It is the fifth-largest higher education system of its kind in the United States.
