MnSCU chancellor accepts position with Council for Higher Education Accreditation

Judith S. Eaton, chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU), today announced her appointment as president of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a Washington, D.C.-based association that coordinates college and university accreditation efforts throughout the country.

In her resignation letter to the MnSCU Board of Trustees, Eaton said, "I appreciate the confidence, help and support that I have received during my tenure as chancellor. Together we have made great progress in moving MnSCU forward."

Bill Ulland, chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed his appreciation to Chancellor Eaton for the work she has done.

"Judith Eaton has led the development of our new strategic plan, established a firm fiscal foundation for MnSCU, created a new and dynamic management culture and most of all, she has set a tone for MnSCU of 'putting students first.' "

Eaton became MnSCU's first permanent chancellor on August 15, 1995. Her achievements have included organizing and providing leadership to the newly merged system of Minnesota higher education, creating a strategic vision for MnSCU, consolidating community and technical colleges into 11 comprehensive colleges, empowering presidents by shifting significant authority to the colleges and universities, conceptualizing the MnSCU Electronic Academy, developing new management and fiscal systems and policies, and proposing a legislative agenda that should result in a funding increase for MnSCU.

Eaton's resignation is effective August 1, 1997. She will assume the CHEA presidency in September 1997.
