Rochester Community and Technical College:

Gov. Arne H., Carlson announced (July 30) that the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership has awarded a $197,385 training grant to RCTC to provide entry-level training, advanced training and retraining for over 100 workers on the AS/400 operations program.

 


 

Winona State University:

Hewlett-Package Company announced a donation to the Computer Science Department of Winona State University of HP OpenView Professional Suite software to help students build a solid understanding of enterprise network and systems management and information-technology administration.

 


 

Northwest Technical College

Northwest Technical College has developed a Distance Education Program in Practical Nursing with the help of an electronic education grant from MnSCU. The program is offered via the Internet.

 


 

Riverland Community College

Riverland Community College is offering a series of nursing and health care workshops on the Austin and Albert Lea campuses, with intriguing names like "Oh, Those Nasty Bugs!" on common contagious diseases--strep, staph, chicken pox, salmonella and mono.

 


 

Metropolitan State University

Metropolitan State University appointed a new dean of the College of Professional and Community Studies, James Arnold Wahlberg.

 


 

St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State will dedicate a World Commons garden on campus Sept. 3.

 


 

Other items:

If you didn't see it, the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office reported (Aug. 13) that scores of Minnesota's 1997 graduating seniors to who the ACT assessment remained stable at 22.1, tying the all-time high score for the state established last year. The average Minnesota score was 1.1 points above the national average.
