Esther Stoy ’20 has left her mark on Anoka-Ramsey Community College’s Coon Rapids Campus.

She joined more than 20 Anoka-Ramsey students and Minneapolis-based muralist Greta McLain to lead the design, painting and installation of a new campus mural, My Story, Your Story, Our Story. Though COVID-19 closures and restrictions complicated the process, the mural was completed and installed during summer 2020.

Esther says the experience was once-in-a-lifetime: “If someone would have told me when I came to Anoka-Ramsey, or any college, that I would be working on something like this, I wouldn’t have believed them.”

Ester has started her next chapter, enrolling at Winona State University fall semester 2020. She says she would encourage students to consider getting their start in a community college environment.

“The stigma attached to the phrase ‘community college’ shouldn’t stop you,” Esther says. “I am blown away by the education I got for the price that I paid.”
