After graduation from Hibbing Community College in 2007 with an associate of science degree in business, Wayne Kangas went on to finish his bachelor’s degree in business and began a career in financial planning.

In 2010, Wayne and his wife returned to Hibbing where he found a passion for community and economic development throughout Northeast Minnesota. He served as the chair of Hibbing Area Chamber Commerce in 2016 and co-founded a non-profit organization, ReGen, which strives to build communities that are attractive for all people to live, work, and play on the Iron Range.

Currently, Wayne works as a business consultant with the University of Minnesota Duluth Center for Economic Development, is a member of the Workforce Development Board, where he chairs the Equity and Inclusion Committee, and is president of the Hibbing Community College Foundation. Wayne serves as ambassador for the K America Foundation, which provides Korean language and cultural support for adoptees as well as Korean Americans.
