Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Graduated: 2017
Degree/Major: Associate of Arts

Emily Vang first discovered North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) when she was still in high school. Her choir was invited to tour campus and sing in the winter concert. Although she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do after high school, Emily was impressed and enrolled.

While at NHCC, Emily was president of the Hmong Student Club and also worked on campus in the bookstore. She had a great support system at NHCC and was urged to get involved by faculty and staff. She was even invited to lead a presentation on Hmong culture for employees. Emily credits NHCC for offering her many opportunities to build leadership and advocacy skills. “NHCC was my steppingstone to where I am now.”

Upon graduation, Emily continued her education at Concordia University in St. Paul. She pursued both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Family Science and Family Life Education. Today, Emily serves as an Education and Certification Coordinator at the National Council on Family Relations. In this role, she certifies family life educators and helps families in the community. Emily feels that her career has come full circle and she loves being able to empower kids and families.
