About the Conference
The Minnesota Open Education Conference focuses on expanding the use of open educational resources (OER) and open educational practices throughout Minnesota.
This inaugural conference is sponsored by Minnesota State with support from Open Minnesota and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC).
2027 Theme: Foundations and Futures
The Foundations and Futures theme celebrates the ideas and efforts that have built the open education movement while looking ahead to new possibilities. Together we will share lessons learned, explore emerging practices and technologies, and help shape the future of open education.
Call for Proposals

Faculty, librarians, students, instructional designers, administrators, and other education professionals who are committed to open education in Minnesota are invited to share their experience and expertise. Practitioners beyond Minnesota are also welcome to participate.

Minnesota State
With over 290,000 students and 3,800 programs, Minnesota State is the third largest system of state colleges and universities in the United States and the largest in the state with 26 colleges, 7 universities, and 54 campuses. For over a decade, with the support of the State of Minnesota, Minnesota State has nurtured the development of open education through initiatives that include OER Learning Circles, library resources, Creative Commons training, the Network for Educational Development, copyright support, Z-degrees, and special projects.

Open Minnesota
Open Minnesota, a statewide open education and affordability organization focusing on better coordinating and communicating existing initiatives, identifying what additional shared efforts would be most valuable, and shaping how statewide collaboration should organize to take on that work.
This organization aims to increase equitable access to course materials for students of all ages across Minnesota. It’s open to practitioners from across education levels and institution types, including K-12, public, private, and Tribal colleges. This includes but is not limited to librarians and media specialists; instructional designers and instructional coaches; faculty development and curriculum directors; faculty and teachers; administrators; bookstore/course materials staff; student success professionals; and others who actively support OER and affordability efforts in Minnesota.
MHEC
Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) programs and initiatives save member states and students millions of dollars annually through time- and cost-savings opportunities. MHEC research supports workforce readiness and improves the quality, accessibility, and affordability of postsecondary education. MHEC convenings bring together leaders and subject experts to share knowledge, generate ideas, and develop collaborative solutions.
One of four regional higher education compacts in the U.S., MHEC brings together leaders from Midwestern states to strengthen postsecondary education, advance student success, and promote regional economic vitality.
